Every year, in April, Cherryland Electric Cooperative sponsors up to four students from local high schools to attend teen days at the Kettunen 4-H Center near Cadillac. They are joined by 30-40 students from Michigan Cooperatives around the state to learn more about the electric industry, the cooperative business structure and leadership. The program also offers a number of activities including pole climbing, a tour of Wolverine Power Supply to learn how power is purchased and dispatched and a visit to a television studio to watch a live newscast. There is also a lot of free time for activities such as volleyball, hiking, and canoeing.
High school students who are 16 or 17 in 2009 and whose parents/ guardians are members of Cherryland Electric Cooperative may apply by submitting an application online. For more information about Teen Days, call Amanda Olds at 231/486-9254 or email her at amandao@cecelec.com.
Students who attend the Michigan Teen Days program automatically qualify for consideration to represent Cherryland Electric Cooperative at the national Rural Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. in June.
This years Teen Days are from April 29th through May 1st |
